Mr. Quasthoff is a bass-baritone ... an unusual choice for a Commendatore because that means Don Giovanni ends up with a heavier voice in this case ... BUT, somehow it still works, because Mr. Quasthoff is strong enough in voice to be commanding ... an EXCEPTION to the rule that the role does require a a basso profundo ... an occasional exception is excusable!

So intensiv! Herrlich! Alle beide sind großartig. Vogt ist selbst noch in den Piano-Stellen so präsent, so durchsetzungsfähig, überhaupt so textverständlich. Live ihn zu sehen ist eine wirkliche Offenbarung. Mit welcher Intensität er die Rollen gestaltet! Diese schöne Stimme - die schönste für mich auf Erden! - hört man selbst mit Chor noch deutlich heraus.

Beautiful voices, but overacting, and staging is one of modern awful attempts to bring classic gems into 21 st century, without sensitivity and respect for original idea! The producers are competing with Hollywood, to their loss.

This is some superb singing and acting from everyone involved. I also saw in the cast information that the Anna of this show was the OTHER German soprano I LOVE, in fact, my even more favorite than Röschmann: Annette Dasch!!! Gosh, I would LOVE see her full Anna!!! Judging by her Mozart arias album, Dasch is one of the greatest Donna Annas, IMHO! What an amazing “pairing” of the two Donnas in this production.

I’ve always thought Bryn Terfel was better as Leporello himself: he just looks and sounds like it. Especially next to Rene Pape.
